Ahmed Masoud Wins the 2011 Muslim Writers Awards

Al Zaytouna’s artistic director, Ahmed Masoud, beat national competition to win the prestigious Muslim Writers Awards 2011 for the unpublished novel category on 24th November 2011 at Shakespeare’s Globe. Sponsored by Penguin Books, the Awards recognise new and upcoming writing by British Muslims in a variety of fields including published and unpublished fiction, poetry, journalism and short stories.The judges’ feedback was fantastic: “We all admired the compassion and honesty of the book; the way it never preached, but instead provided a window into a world, which is evoked here with great power and originality.”

The judges in the Unpublished Novel category were:

-       Simon Prosser, Publishing Director of Hamish Hamilton and Penguin Books

-       Arifa Akbar, Deputy Literary Editor, The Independent

-       Vivian Archer, Bookseller, Newham Bookshop

-       Kavita Bhanot, Author, Tindal Street Press
